Chapter 13: Ksetra Ksetrajna Vibhaaga Yoga, verse 33
Say ityathā sarva-gataṁ saukṣhmyād ākāśhaṁ nopalipyate
sarvatrāvasthito dehe tathātmā nopalipyate
Translation
As the all-pervading ether is not tainted, due to its subtlety, so the Self seated everywhere in the body is not tainted either.
Swami Sivananda
As the all-pervading space is not defiled, due to its subtlety, similarly the Self, present everywhere in bodies, is not defiled.
Swami Gambirananda
Follows the commentary of Shankara (Advaita).
As the all-pervading ether is not tainted due to its subtlety, even so, the self abiding in the body is not tainted everywhere.
Swami Adidevananda
Follows the commentary of Ramanuja (Vishishtadvaita).
Just as the all-pervasive Ether is not stained due to its subtlety, in the same way the Self, abiding in the body everywhere, is not stained.
Dr. S. Sankaranarayan
Follows the commentary of Abhinavagupta (Kashmir Shaivism).
As space, though present everywhere, remains unaffected due to its subtlety, so too the Self, though present in all forms, retains its purity unalloyed.
Shri Purohit Swami
Swami Ramsukhdas
Swami Tejomayananda
